Department Head Word

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

My dear students,

Greetings of love, appreciation, and hopeful anticipation for the conscious, educated, and diligent youth striving toward a better future for our beloved homeland, Egypt.

Veterinary virology is considered one of the fundamental pillars upon which veterinary medicine, public health, and national economic growth depend. The role of this science extends beyond protecting livestock from the risks of mortality or decreased productivity—which threaten food sources—to serving as the first line of defense for protecting humankind. Scientific evidence has confirmed that a large proportion of viruses affecting humans are originally of animal origin. Therefore, studying viruses in animals helps us predict the emergence of human pandemics (such as coronavirus, SARS, and avian influenza) and control them before transmission occurs. This also includes protecting wildlife from lethal viruses to preserve biodiversity and environmental balance.

The need to manufacture and develop viral vaccines to control the spread of viruses has become evident. Veterinary viruses have long served as an inspiring laboratory for developing vaccine technologies that have saved millions of human lives throughout history. Today, we focus on the global approach that closely links human, animal, and environmental health to confront successive viral challenges.
